Colleen Ferguson
Colleen Ferguson is a visual artist whose work takes an interdisciplinary
approach, challenging the use of various mediums. And while she likes to remain
open to the possibilities of creating work in various materials and
disciplines, focus tends to lean towards clay and its limitless possibilities,
more specifically in the design industry, where Colleen has a passion for
design, as well as fine art. Being raised in small town/ rural Alberta and
receiving her education in large urban centers has provided her with a myriad
of vast and differing sources of inspiration. Nature, wildlife, domestic
livestock and the prairie lifestyle are familiar, and the roots of where she
began her journey. Conversely, what the urban lifestyle has to offer in
contrast Colleen finds equally appealing. Modern architecture, design, and the
contrast in color palettes, from the subdued earthen palette of the
prairie-scape to the pure, intense and wildly vivid colors often found in urban
centers. Colleen feels the energy is completely different and inspires very
different work. Colleen has studied art and design at Red Deer College- Red
Deer, Alberta and NSCAD University- Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she received
her B.F.A - Interdisciplinary. She is currently focusing on creating work to
pursue an M.F.A and working on a production line.
